Scale
Gather these ingredients to make Honey Garlic Chicken:
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- ⅓ cup honey
- ¼ cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar or rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons water (optional, for thickening)
- Sesame seeds and green onions, chopped, for garnish
Instructions
Prepare the Chicken:
- Season the Chicken: Pat the chicken dry with paper towels, then season both sides with salt and pepper.
Cook the Chicken:
- Heat the Pan: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add olive oil and let it heat up.
- Sear the Chicken: Place the chicken in the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through (165°F/75°C internal temperature). Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
Make the Sauce:
- Sauté the Garlic: In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add the minced garlic. Sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the Sauce Ingredients: Stir in the honey, soy sauce, and vinegar. Cook for 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to bubble and slightly reduce.
- Optional Thickening: If you prefer a thicker sauce, stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for an additional minute until the sauce thickens.
Combine Chicken and Sauce:
- Coat the Chicken: Return the chicken to the skillet and toss to coat it evenly in the honey garlic sauce. Simmer for 1-2 minutes to meld the flavors.
Serve the Chicken:
- Garnish and Serve: Transfer the chicken to a plate, drizzle with the remaining sauce, and garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve hot
